Getting Paid
Getting Paid
How money moves on MarketplacePlanet, in plain English: who holds it, for how long, what gets deducted, and when it lands in your bank.
The journey of one sale
- The buyer pays the marketplace. At checkout the buyer pays by card. The money lands with MarketplacePlanet — not yet in your account.
- The 7-day hold. Funds are held for 7 days after the sale. That window is the buyer-protection period: it covers broken-file and not-as-described claims. If a dispute opens on an order, that order’s release waits until the dispute resolves.
- Release to your Stripe Express account. When the hold ends, the payout releases automatically to the Stripe Express account you connected, minus the payment processing fee, and Stripe pays it on to your bank on its normal payout schedule.
Marketplace commission during your founding year: 0%. The only deduction is processing.
Plans and listing limits: the free Founding Seller plan includes up to 250 active listings. Outgrow it? Seller Growth ($19.99/month) raises the cap to 1,000 listings, and Seller Pro ($99/month) is unlimited — both still at 0% commission. The caps exist to keep the catalog clean and spam-free.
A worked example
Sale price: $29.00
Marketplace commission (Founding Seller, year one): −$0.00
Stripe processing fee (2.9% + 30¢ = $0.84 + $0.30): −$1.14
You receive: $27.86 — released after the 7-day hold.
We don’t mark up processing fees. What Stripe charges is what’s deducted — nothing more.
Step zero: connect your bank
Payouts run through Stripe Connect (Express). In the Seller Panel, open the Stripe Connect step and complete Stripe’s hosted onboarding: verify your identity, then add the bank account where payouts should land. Already have a Stripe account? You can connect it. Don’t have one? You create it during the same onboarding — it takes a few minutes.
MarketplacePlanet never sees or stores your bank details. Stripe holds them — that’s their whole job.
Connect before you list. You can create products before banking is connected, but an order can’t be paid out to a seller who hasn’t connected Stripe. Connect first, so your first sale doesn’t bounce.
When tax information is needed
- At onboarding: Stripe collects your identity and tax details when you connect your bank — that’s a legal requirement for paying you, and it happens inside Stripe, not on our servers.
- At $600 in sales: we ask for your tax ID as you approach $600 in cumulative sales.
- Reporting: you are responsible for taxes on your sales; we report as required by law (for example, 1099-K thresholds).
First payouts and reserves
Brand-new sellers may see their very first payouts held longer while fraud checks run — that’s normal and it passes. In higher-risk situations (new accounts, disputed orders), we may hold a reserve on payouts for a period, as set out in the Seller Agreement. Reserves are released once the risk window closes.
Refunds and chargebacks
If a sale is refunded — a broken file, a product materially not as described — the refund comes out of your seller balance: the amount is deducted, usually from your future payouts, and the buyer’s download access is revoked. If a buyer goes to their bank instead (a chargeback), cooperate with the dispute process promptly; unresolved chargebacks may likewise be deducted from future payouts. Keep your files working and your descriptions honest and this section will rarely apply to you. The full policy texts: Buyer Protection and Returns & Refunds.
